New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management Bangalore will establish a campus in Indonesia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Tuesday in a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The new campus will be established in the Singhasari Special Economic Zone, Malang.
The initiative marks a milestone under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages premier Indian institutions to establish an international presence. It will deepen the relationship between the two countries and position Indonesia as a regional hub for management education.
While this will be the first international campus of IIM Bangalore, it is certainly not the first time Indian institutions have established a presence abroad. Here’s a list of prominent IIM and IIT campuses worldwide.
1. IIM Bangalore, Singhasari SEZ
The curriculum for the new campus includes five important elements of the emerging business landscape: global supply chains, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, climate and sustainability, and healthcare management. Each will feature interactions with industry leaders and eminent global personalities.
IIM Bangalore’s proposed programmes will be executed in two phases. Phase One will commence with Executive Education Programmes targeted at senior executives, business leaders, and public sector professionals. If this is successfully implemented over the first two years, Phase Two will introduce degree-granting management programmes.
The campus will primarily serve Indonesian nationals, and also attract participants from other Southeast Asian countries. Indonesian students will have opportunities to undertake short academic visits to the Bengaluru campus.

Inaugurated in September 2024, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi Abu Dhabi is the institution’s first international campus, and the second IIT international campus globally. It is located in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi.
Its four BTech courses include CSE, energy engineering, chemical engineering, and electrical engineering. These are four-year courses.
The campus offers an MTech or MSc course in energy transition and sustainability. It’s a two-year programme that teaches clean energy transitions, heavily supported by regional industrial giants. The MSc in artificial intelligence course has been formulated in strategic partnership with the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI).
