New Delhi: Actor Sheetal Menon’s directorial Duet will be the first film to premiere on Spotify.
Starring actor Sidhant Gupta and produced by filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar, Duet will release on 30 July. The short film will also be available on Getaway Pictures’ YouTube channel.
Set during the Covid-19 pandemic, Duet follows the life of a pianist who is struggling to cope with the death of his estranged brother. As he battles grief and isolation, he experiences a mysterious musical connection with his brother.
“The film grew out of a very specific kind of grief and the isolation so many of us felt during the pandemic,” Menon said.
The film also features special appearances by Sayani Gupta (Margarita with a Straw) and Puja Sarup (Sui Dhaaga). It has been shot by cinematographer Siddharth Srinivasan and edited by Prakash Kurup. The sound design is by Moinak Bose, while the original score has been composed by Sid Acharya.
“For any storyteller, sharing a film with the world is almost impossible to put into words. Duet took far longer than I had imagined, and there were many moments when I questioned whether I should keep going. But the story stayed with me. More than anything, this release is a reminder to never give up on a story you truly believe in,” she added.
The film also includes international compositions such as Delusions: III. Délicat Avec Passion by New York-based composer Eric Christian and The Hourglass by London-based composer Ben Crosland, along with a featured violin performance by London-based musician Tineke de Jong.
