New Delhi: After Elon Musk claimed that former police officer Derek Chauvin was unjustly convicted of murdering George Floyd, US Representative Shri Thanedar lashed out.
“No wonder your kids hate you,” wrote Thanedar on X. Shrinivas Prasad Thanedar is an Indian-born American businessman, author, and politician serving as the US representative from Michigan’s 13th congressional district since 2023.
Chauvin was convicted of the murder of George Floyd and Thanedar strongly condemned Musk’s post defending him.
“Derek Chauvin was unjustly convicted of murder; therefore, he should be freed. The facts show that he was not the cause of death, nor did he at any time intend for a death to occur. Whatever else he may be, he is not a murderer. That is the truth,” wrote Musk on X on 19 August.
Reacting to Musk’s post, Thanedar condemned it.
“This racist ketamine-fueled apartheid baby wants to turn America into the white supremacist state he was molded by,” wrote Thanedar on 20 August.
One user wrote, “The bystander cops were jailed too” under Musk’s post. He replied, “Also extremely unfair.”
Musk’s comment came a day after Chauvin once again requested a dismissal of state murder charges in the 2020 killing. This is his third request to dismiss the charges; previous petitions were denied.

George Floyd’s murder
In May 2020, 46-yr-old George Floyd was murdered in Minneapolis by police officer Derek Chauvin.
Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes during an arrest over an alleged counterfeit $20 bill. His death sparked massive global protests against police brutality and systemic racism. It gave rise to the Black Lives Matter movement in the US, and citizens were making demands to defund the police.
Chauvin has been in federal prison since 2021.
His attorneys previously appealed his conviction to the Minnesota Court of Appeals, citing a long list of reasons, including procedural errors. The court rejected those petitions.
