New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke says jailed JNU scholar and activist Umar Khalid should at least get a court hearing in the case he has been incarcerated in for six years without a trial.
In a 30-second video on ANI, Dipke said in Hindi: “Mujhe lagta hai unki hearing ya trial to hona chahiye. Legal proceedings ko naa roka jaaye. (I think he should have a hearing. He should have a trial. The legal proceedings should not be stopped.)

Dipke spoke about Khalid for the first time since he was back in the country to lead NEET paper leak protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
Khalid was arrested in September 2020 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He has been awaiting a trial for six years.
CJP a ‘pressure group’
During the CJP protest, the slogans of Azaadi — popular during the 2016 JNU row — were banned by CJP, but communalism in the country was widely spoken about.
Even during his first address on 6 June, Dipke argued that there is a religious divide in the country that should be eliminated.
“The Hindu-Muslim division has not benefited anyone,” he had said.
Dipke is currently busy shaping CJP future plans along with core team members in Pune.
Started as a parody party, then a social movement, Dipke now calls CJP a “pressure group” that India needs and that the system has become “poor”.
“The support our movement received was never limited to the issue of education. As the movement grew, it became clear that it also reflected the public’s declining trust in these institutions,” Dipke said while addressing the media in his home town, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
CJP is now planning a nationwide campaign starting from 1 September – Kya Bolti Public. CJP leaders will meet people at the grassroots level and create a “Youth Form Charter”.
