ROME (Reuters) – Italy’s Saipem and Finland’s Valmet signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop decarbonisation solutions for industry sectors that are trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the companies said on Monday.

The groups will collaborate by focusing on so-called hard-to-abate industries, with integrated and flexible options in the pulp, paper and energy sectors, for existing and new facilities.

The solutions will combine Saipem’s carbon emission management technologies with the heat recovery and flue gas treatment units engineered and produced by Valmet.

The agreement “expands Saipem’s portfolio of energy transition innovations, further strengthening our unique ability to cover the entire CO2 capture, re-utilization and storage value chain”, Saipem Chief Commercial Officer Fabrizio Botta said in the statement.
