(Reuters) -At least eight people have died after an earthquake hit the Gansu-Qinghai border region in China on Tuesday, AFP said in a post on social media platform X, citing Chinese state media.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) had pegged the earthquake at a magnitude 6.1 in the region.

The quake was at a depth of 35 kilometers (21.75 miles) with its epicenter located 102 kilometers west-southwest of Lanzhou, China, EMSC said.
