New Delhi: Back by popular demand, Ted Lasso’s season 4 has become the biggest launch in Apple TV’s history, with 296.6 million minutes watched in just two days.
The latest season aired on 5 August and has already surpassed the previous seasons of the show. It has also beaten highly watched shows such as Severance and Pluribus. According to a report by Nielsen, the show was most streamed in the United States, with nearly 200 million viewers.
The new season is set three years after season 3, where Ted, played by Jason Sudeikis, returns to Richmond. The series calls it Ted’s biggest challenge yet: coaching a second-division women’s football team. Returning series regulars include Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift.
Apart from the original cast members, Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Ahyes, Aisling Sharkey and Gráinne Feely will also be joining the show.
The Apple Original revolves around Ted, an inexperienced college football coach, but his optimistic spirit helps the team win. An accomplishment that’s contrary to the wishes of the club owners. Ted Lasso has won several awards, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, while Sudeikis won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor, among others.
In 2023, Sudeikis made it clear that the third season of Ted Lasso would be its last, saying that it marked the end of the story the team had wanted and hoped to tell.
“This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell,” he said, leaving the future of the series uncertain at the time.
