New Delhi: Actor Ranveer Singh has been banned by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees over his abrupt exit from Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3.

Following Singh’s exit, the producers have allegedly demanded Rs 45 crore in damages. The FWICE took up the matter last week and announced its final decision to the media during a press conference on 25 May.

The FWICE issued a strict non-cooperation directive against the Dhurandhar (2025) actor, banning him and instructing the film industry not to work with him until the dispute is resolved.

“The FWICE firmly believes that the entire film industry functions as one extended family, where every individual associated with different crafts and departments contributes collectively toward the successful creation of a project,” the federation’s statement read.

According to the FWICE, sudden exits from projects by senior and established actors at crucial stages pose a serious threat to the stability and working ecology of the entertainment industry.

“The Federation considers all artists, technicians, workers, producers, directors, and members from every craft as part of one family bound together by mutual trust, professional commitments, respect, and collective responsibility,” the film body added.

Why did Ranveer Singh leave Don 3?

The dispute stems from a complaint filed by Excel Entertainment in April 2026, which revealed that the actor had signed a three-film contract with the banner.

In the complaint, the production house demanded that Singh bear all pre-production damages, with Akhtar strictly demanding reimbursement for the massive pre-production costs.

The actor-filmmaker had earlier addressed the issue in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India.

“A lot has happened over the last couple of years. You learn to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted until you actually have it on film,” Akhtar said.

Akhtar’s last directorial venture was the 2011 action-thriller Don 2, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Boman Irani in key roles.

The FWICE is the premier, non-political trade union organisation for film workers in India.
