Mumbai: After season upon season devoting her life to caring for her children, Violet Bridgerton is finally getting her own spotlight. Netflix has greenlit Violet Bridgerton’s very own spin-off. The new limited series will follow a young Violet and her romance with Edmund Bridgerton. Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini, who worked on the 2023 spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, will return as writers and creators for the Bridgerton story.
Violet is played by Ruth Gemmell in Bridgerton, the matriarch of the eight Bridgerton siblings. The spin-off will chronicle her romance and subsequent marriage into the Bridgerton clan.
Rhimes had spoken about a possible Violet spin-off in March this year, during an appearance on the On the Glass Half Full podcast.
“I’ve always said that I thought if we were going to do something like that, Violet would be a great person to tell the story about. That’s a possibility,” the 56-year-old producer had said.
Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell also told Radio Times earlier this year that she would love a young Violet spin-off.
Julia Quinn, who wrote the Bridgerton book, also detailed Violet and Edmund’s story in Violet in Bloom in The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After (2013), a collection of eight second epilogues connected to the original Bridgerton (2000-2006) novels.
Quinn previously said she didn’t want to write a full-length novel about the parents because Edmund dies young. In Bridgerton, he dies after a bee sting, leaving Violet to raise their eight children. His death is shown in flashbacks in Season 2, through the memories of their eldest son, Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey.
Violet also appeared as a teenager in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, played by Connie Jenkins-Greig. Netflix hasn’t said whether she will return for the new series or if it will be based on Quinn’s novella.
The cast and release date are yet to be announced. Tom Verica will direct and serve as an executive producer alongside Betsy Beers.
Filming for Bridgerton Season 5 is underway in London. It will focus on Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, and Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza, and is expected to air sometime in 2027.
