New Delhi: Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi’s life story is set to be adapted into a big-budget Bollywood biopic, with Sajid Nadiadwala reportedly backing the project. Modi had earlier claimed that actor Ranveer Singh wanted to portray him in his biopic.

According to a Pinkvilla report, writer-producer Sneha Rajani is part of the project’s writing and development team. The makers are reportedly working on a story that explores different chapters of Modi’s life, going beyond the controversies that have defined his public image.

Modi played a key role in launching the IPL in 2008, serving as its first chairman and commissioner, but his rise followed controversies surrounding his role in the league and his association with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He left India in 2010 and has since been based in London.

What Lalit Modi said about Ranveer Singh

In an interview with ANI, Modi revealed that a film based on his life was in the scripting stage. He said several actors had shown interest in playing him on screen. He recalled a meeting with Ranveer Singh in London, where the actor expressed an interest in playing Modi’s character.

“Ranveer Singh met me a few years ago; he wanted to play me in a movie”, Modi said.

Recalling their conversation, Modi added, “Two years ago, we sat here, right in this house, and we talked about him playing me. But we are now scripting it. It’s a lot of work.”

Modi admitted he is unsure whether Singh remains interested in the role, as the project has yet to move into production and because of the actor’s busy schedule. However, he praised Singh’s skills and appreciated his performance in Dhurandhar (2026).

“Without doubt, he’s amazing. And what he has done with Dhurandhar is amazing. Whether he still wants to play me or not, I don’t know,” he added.

A possible Modi family series

Modi also revealed that his story may extend beyond a feature film. According to him, a television series focusing on the history of the Modi family is also in development, which he described as a dramatic story in its own right.

“Ours is worse than Dynasty and Dallas put together. And that TV series is coming out. I am in the works of making it the Modi family TV series,” he said in the ANI interview.
