New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s last film, Jana Nayagan, is set to release on 19 June, but the announcement hasn’t come from the producers, the studio, the censor board, or the courts. Fans spotted that tickets for the film were available on booking apps.
Over the weekend, District by Zomato and BookMyShow updated their listings for the film with the expected release date.
Within minutes, screenshots of the listings were widely shared on social media, sparking a new round of speculation about whether Vijay’s long-delayed film would finally be available to the public.
“Jana Nayagan finally hits theatres on 19 June. Tap ‘Remind me’ to know when bookings go live,” read the text on the notifications shared by fans.

While ticket booking platforms have already teased a possible release date, Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions confirmed on Friday that the film is yet to receive its CBFC certification.
The delay in certification comes after more than five months of its supposed release date. If the listed release date, 19 June, turns out to be true and final, it will be a double treat for the fans as Vijay will also be celebrating his 52nd birthday on 22 June.
“Jana Nayagan release on 19 June? Are you ready for the ultimate birthday treat? Drop your expectations below,” read one fan’s X post.
Earlier this month, Vijay scripted history by winning the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. The Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) brought a political whirlwind to the state. The TVK emerged as the single-largest party in what was Vijay’s debut assembly elections. The party broke a decades-long duopoly of the DMK and AIADMK in the state by forming the government in coalition with the Congress and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
When Vijay launched the TVK in 2024, he announced his retirement from films. The actor-turned-politician dedicated himself fully to politics. Vijay had declared that his final film would be Jana Nayagan, which was initially scheduled for release in January but faced legal troubles over the last few months.
