New Delhi: Nearly four decades after George Michael’s Faith Tour, audiences will finally get to see the legendary 1988 concerts on the big screen. The concert filmGeorge Michael: The Faith Tour, has been acquired by Bleecker Street’s Crosswalk and Universal Pictures Content Group for theatrical distribution, with its trailer set to be released on 2 September.

Directed by Andy Morahan and David Austin, the film follows the English singer performing during the European leg of his first solo headlining tour, with footage recorded across two concerts at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris on 30 and 31 May 1988.

The concerts were filmed using 14 cameras on 35mm film and have now been restored and remastered for the release. The footage also includes his solo performances as well as songs associated with his Wham! years (1981-1986).

Morahan previously worked with Michael on music videos including ‘Faith,’ ‘Careless Whisper’ and ‘Last Christmas,’ while Austin was closely associated with Michael’s later visual projects, including George Michael: Freedom Uncut (2022).

The theatrical release will also include Finding Faith, a new short film directed by Mary McCartney, who is also the daughter of The Beatles singer Paul McCartney. The short film features previously unseen photographs of Michael taken by celebrated photographer Herb Ritts, along with behind-the-scenes material from the making of the ‘Faith’ music video in 1987.

The concert film is particularly significant because the Paris footage had remained unseen for decades and has become something of a cult phenomenon for fans. It offers audiences a chance to once again experience the singer during his Faith era, when his debut solo album had transformed him from a Wham! band member into one of the biggest solo artists in the world.

The film will also be accompanied by an 18-track live album, featuring previously unreleased recordings from the tour, from Sony Music Entertainment.

The film is currently scheduled for a December 2026 cinema release in the US, with international theatrical plans being rolled out by Universal Pictures Content Group.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
