Mumbai: The trailer for Crystal Lake, a prequel to the Friday the 13th film series, was released on Sunday. It shows Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, whose young son Jason drowned at Crystal Lake nearly a year earlier.
In the trailer, Pamela refuses to accept that her son is gone.
“I don’t want to heal,” she tells police officer Levon Brooks, played by William Catlett. “I want to find my son.”
Pamela believes that Jason may still be somewhere around Crystal Lake.
“I just had this feeling that he was still out there,” she says.
The trailer also shows two strangers arriving in town and asking questions about Pamela’s past. As she searches for Jason, people begin turning up dead. In one scene, she wakes up and sees a large knife next to her.
The eight-episode prequel series is set before the events of Friday the 13th, the 1980 horror film that started the franchise.
The original film follows a group of counsellors preparing to reopen Camp Crystal Lake, where Jason had drowned years earlier. They are killed one by one before Pamela is revealed as the killer. She says Jason drowned because the counsellors who were supposed to be watching him were not paying attention.
The new show goes back to the period after Jason’s disappearance and before Pamela becomes the killer seen in the original film.
Callum Vinson plays the young Jason. The cast also includes Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom.
Brad Caleb Kane, who worked on HBO series It: Welcome to Derry, a prequel series to the It horror films, created the show and serves as writer and showrunner. A24 is producing Crystal Lake, with Victor Miller, who wrote the original Friday the 13th, among the executive producers.
Crystal Lake will premiere in the US on Peacock on 15 October. An India release date or streaming platform has not been announced yet.
