New Delhi: The Russo Brothers are back with one of Marvel Studios’ most anticipated films, Avengers: Doomsday. The film marks Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a new role as Doctor Doom, while Chris Evans reprises his role as Steve Rogers.
The directing duo, who previously directed Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), return for the MCU’s next major crossover event.
Although Stark sacrificed himself in Endgame and Rogers retired, the newly released trailer shows him to be younger than last seen in the MCU and once again worthy of Thor’s hammer Mjolnir.
Avengers: Doomsday unites heroes from different Marvel universes as catastrophic incursions threaten the multiverse. Inspired by Marvel Comics’ 2015 Time Runs Out storyline, the film sets the stage for Secret Wars (2027), where colliding realities ultimately merge into Battleworld under the rule of Doctor Doom.
The incursions featured in the trailer are among the most devastating events in Marvel lore. Introduced in Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers run, they occur when two universes collide, forcing one reality to be destroyed to save the other. The conflict eventually leads to Doom acquiring god-like powers and reshaping the surviving multiverse into Battleworld.
The crossover also reunites generations of Marvel heroes, with Patrick Stewart returning as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, and the Fantastic Four led by Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards joining forces with Thor, Captain America, Black Panther, Shang-Chi, and several other superheroes. Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova will also star in the film.
The trailer has generated not just massive excitement but also created a lot of intrigue among the fans. A section of Indian fans on X criticised the CGI as looking “unfinished” and drew comparisons with Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic Ramayana, with many claiming the Indian film’s visuals appeared more polished despite Marvel’s massive budget.
”The problem is not VFX, the problem is with AI. Because AI tools generate more accurate ones, that’s why the original one also looks like a fan-made,” an X user commented.
”It’s a cash grab slop by the garbage recycle center called Disney Marvel,” another user wrote.
“The so-called VFX experts, who were finding flaws in Ramayana assets and were calling it AI are now silent on Doomsday trailer,” a user posted.
Avengers: Doomsday releases on 18 December across India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
