India revised export levies on petrol and diesel for the next fortnight while keeping the duty on aviation turbine fuel unchanged, as the government continues to adjust the charges in line with international energy prices and domestic supply conditions, according to a Thursday circular.

  • The export levy on petrol has increased from 0.5 rupees per liter earliest to 2.5 rupees per liter, for the next fortnight
  • Levy for diesel has decreased from 16 rupees per liter to 8.5 rupees, while export duty on aviation turbine fuel remains unchanged at 10.5 rupees per liter
  • The levies were introduced on March 27 to discourage exports and safeguard domestic fuel supplies amid the West Asia crisis
  • Rates are reviewed every fortnight based on international prices of crude oil and refined fuels
  • No change has been made to excise duties on petrol and diesel sold in the domestic market.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
