Mumbai, Oct 6 (PTI) Speciality chemicals-focused Dorf Ketal group on Tuesday announced a diversification into the data centre space, promising to invest Rs 30,000 crore in Maharashtra.

The 1992-founded group’s technology and infrastructure arm Trentar signed a memorandum of understanding with the Maharashtra government to build a 500-MW green integrated hyperscale data centre in the state, according to an official statement.

The Maharashtra government will facilitate coordination on permissions, registrations and approvals, the statement said, adding that the project has also received a letter of intent from the state.

Officials said the project is likely to be based in the Navi Mumbai region, which already supports a big part of the country’s overall data centre capacity.

The group’s founder and vice chairman Subodh Menon said it has delivered complex, mission-critical infrastructure over the years and will build the modular data centre campus.

According to the statement, 51 per cent of the project’s energy requirements will be met using renewable sources. Also, the project operator is evaluating treated-water reuse and water-efficient cooling options. PTI AA HVA

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
