An online survey has analysed average wages in 42 countries and calculated how long it would take for people to buy the iPhone XS 64 GB variant.

New Delhi: It would take about two months’ wages for an average Indian to afford the most basic version of Apple’s new flagship iPhone.

This is according to a survey from Picodi.com, a website that provides rebates and discount codes across many countries and many shopping categories. Picodi’s graph plots the results for 41 other countries too.

The results are based on how many days a person would need to work to afford the iPhone XS 64GB variant. The research also takes into account price for this particular iPhone model and official data about average wages.

In precise numbers, it would take 59.9 days for the average Indian to earn enough to buy the new iPhone, which is the fourth longest period in the world. In India, prices for iPhone XS with 64GB storage start at Rs 99,900. The starting price for the iPhone XS Max variant with 64GB is Rs 1,09,900.

With the rupee at its weakest against the US dollar, Indians will need to spend more to afford premium goods such iPhones. The Indian rupee was trading at Rs 72.18 against the US dollar as on 21 September.

  1. The USA statistics are deceiving. Most people in the USA are not wealthy contrary to popular belief. I would guess that 80% of Americans Finance their smartphones on a pay per month plan.

Are you serious? It takes an average Indian two months of salary to buy the iPhone you are mentioning. Which jobs pay such money Madam?

  3. You must have forgotten iranian people. For iranian it will take more than 2 years of saving all their income in order to buy the cheapest iphone.
