New Delhi: A day after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan praised India for pursuing an “independent” foreign policy, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said Monday that the country’s “record speaks for itself”.

“To say that one person (praised our foreign policy) would be wrong. We have received praise across the board for many of our foreign policy initiatives at the level of the Prime Minister. I think our record speaks for itself,” the Foreign Secretary said while addressing a media briefing on the India-Australia Summit meeting.

The Pakistan Prime Minister Sunday praised India’s foreign policy while addressing a rally at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

He was talking about how Pakistan was being forced by the European countries to take a stand on the Russia-Ukraine war.

“Main aaj Hindustan ko daad deta hun (Today I will praise our neighbouring country Hindustan) as they always had an independent foreign policy. Today, India is in their (America) alliance and they are part of QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue), they say that they are neutral. They are importing oil from Russia despite sanctions because their policy is for the good of their people,” he said.

Otherwise a staunch critic of the BJP government, Khan said he would not allow any country to force it to take a stand on the Ukraine war and call out Russia and have told the European envoys “absolutely not” when they sought Islamabad’s support against Moscow.

Khan was on an official visit to Russia the day President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine. He had even raised the issue of Kashmir with him during their bilateral talks.

Khan is facing a no-confidence vote on March 25 after which he is likely to step down.

The Pakistan Prime Minister, reportedly, has been asked by Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa to resign after the OIC Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
