New Delhi: This week, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar paid an official visit to South Korea. The two countries have been maintaining close ties since establishing diplomatic relations back in 1970.

During his visit, Jaishankar participated in talks with South Korea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cho Tae-yul, discussing ways to further extend bilateral cooperation.

The talks focused on areas such as trade, investments, development, defense, and security, science and technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, said a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The two ministers also discussed developing new areas of cooperation such as critical and emerging technologies, semiconductors, green hydrogen, human resource mobility, and resilient supply chains.

The discussions also covered developments of common interest and concern in the Indo-Pacific region.

During his visit, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of building supply chain resilience, leveraging complementary technology strengths, and linking geographies through connectivity, said the statement by the MEA.

It added that the visit provided an opportunity to create new pathways to strengthen the ‘special strategic partnership’ between India and South Korea.
