I’m not qualified enough to comment and in India it is natural to see many well deserved academicians not getting promotion. So, if Joshi is competent why not he be part of governing board? TIFR is a well known institute. However, if there is a political interference then too nothing can be done. It’s an age old practice that every major appointment in this country is always influenced by political pressure. Thankfully, we still perform better if not best. Caste and religion still rules in the promotions and appointments. Interestingly, merit too gets recognized at times.
What is wrong with this appointment? As the long as the person serves dutifully and honestly it should be alright. IITs BoGs keep the Minutes of Meetings a secret despite a requirement they be made public. There are many such incongruities happening in autonomous institutes which run under the cover of a Board. Try and find out why this is case instead of worrying about some innocuous matter. Print does not seem to have anything worthwhile to sensationalise.
You can’t trust a single person from a political background. They are ready to compromise even the quality of education at one of the best institutes in the world. Is this how IITs are going to be controlled.
Govt normally wants its political nominee on BoG. So they have done accordingly. But it is unfortunate from the standpoint of quality educational institutions. When a PUC failed becomes Minister for HRD, this kind of appointments would be quite natural.
