It is perfectly understandable. The Kejriwal govt is not comfortable with the lawyers selected by the Delhi Police as these would go all out to secure judicial convictions against the prominent culprits – one a sitting MLA of the AAP. Besides, if convictions happen, it will deal a severe blow to the votebank politics of the AAP.
The tactic here is to appoint a panel which would go slow on the case and eventually lose the case for Delhi Police. Thereby ensuring that the AAP can champion itself as a messiah of the minorities in the next election too and garner their votes. It would be a deliberate ploy to lose the cases which would also help in denting the credibility of the Delhi Police. As it is, the liberal/secular brigade has been up in arms against the Delhi Police. Losing the cases would provide them much needed ammunition.
