CAG report on Delhi excise policy highlights grey areas between stated and real objectives. It underlines the cluttered nature of governance with multiplicity of authorities and jurisdictional overlaps in the Capital. It’s for investigative agencies and courts to draw final conclusions. Scam or not, all governments must exit liquor business.
US voting with Russia at UN ends post-Cold War unipolarity. It’s perilous for Europe, India
Washington voting with Moscow at the UN over Ukraine formally ends the post-Cold War unipolarity. India and China abstained, breaking rank with respective ‘friends’, America and Russia. Trump’s fascination for dictators has gutted the world order, signalled a new Yalta. It’s perilous for Europe and brings no comfort for India.
Are these editors dumb? How is US voting with russia bad for India, I can’t see the correlation. Maybe stop publishing articles until you possess the skills necessary to be an editor. And one of the major ones is an unbiased opinion about things you’re publishing, which is completely absent here.
The question to ask is, Is this a transient, four year phase in the foreign ( also domestic ) policy of the United States. Or does it represent deeper impulses to contribute less in terms of leadership and resources to preserve an international rules based order. ( With some aberrations like Gaza ). 2. There are other sources of power and influence in the global order, moving from the Atlantic to Asia. But US retreat is not a good development. India has staked too much on friendship with the United States. It would be prudent to recast foreign policy for both superpowers. America is not the solution to all our problems. And China is not the monstrous problem of our imagination.
The Print’s editorial team is severely lacking in its depth of understanding as far as security strategy and geo-politics is concerned. Mr. Shekhar Gupta may think of himself as some security policy pundit but that’s far from the truth.
It’s true that US voting with Russia is abnormal. But it is not necessarily against India’s interests. Nor should India start worrying unnecessarily over this new “alignment”.
Also, Mr. Gupta and his editorial team’s visceral hatred of and contempt for President Trump comes through very clearly. One can easily see through the fog and even speculate about the reasons for the same. I would leave it to the intelligent reader to connect the dots and figure out the issue.
