Karnataka CM B.S. Yediyurappa has taken political morality to a new low by giving forest, environment and ecology ministry to Anand Singh who faces illegal mining charges. Yediyurappa’s earlier proximity to mining barons cost BJP heavy. He had an opportunity to make a fresh start now, but is squandering it.

SC order on criminal politicians is unnecessary. EC already has process in place

Supreme Court’s direction to political parties to publish reasons for selection of candidates with criminal records, besides winnability, is a case of judicial overreach and unnecessary. The intent to decriminalise politics is welcome. But under existing laws, the Election Commission already requires candidates to declare criminal cases in their affidavits.
