Modi government’s offer to farmers concedes more than we expected and involves some significant rollbacks, especially on letting the states impose cesses on private mandis. It’s disappointing, but every negotiation involves some give and take. The farmers have rejected the offer, but they must now review their maximalist demands too.

IPL beating coronavirus to become most searched Google India term of 2020 is a pleasant surprise. It reaffirms Indians’ love for the game but also underlines a strong desire to overcome the pandemic’s gloom. The organisers can feel proud for pulling this one off, even if it was in UAE.

Russia is wrong, India’s China problems are real. Moscow should not underestimate Delhi

Russia is being fallacious in saying the West is pushing India to play a key role in its ‘anti-China’ policies. India’s China problems are real and its own. New Delhi and the West need each other to tackle Beijing. If Russia can’t help, it can at least stop underestimating India.

  1. Concedes more than you expected? How are these expectations set? And From what baseline? To understand the baseline better, kindly read Shri P Sainath’s excellent article on thewire. When the baseline defined by Modi govt itself is maximalist and includes clauses like Complete barring of access to judicial courts for dispute resolution between farmers and corporates, small concessions by the govt cannot be termed as significant breakthroughs.

    • What kind of rebuttal has Mr. Sainath given on MSP and other economic factors involved in the decision making.
What has he written on – How come open market is going to hurt Punjab farmers?
Any statement on How much subsidy is being giver to each farmer and how those subsidies don’t force farmers to adopt new technologies?
Any statement of how Punjab farmers are still not diversified?
Any statement on how water heavy these rice and wheat crops are?
Just abusing Modi or calling much of media as godi media and calling someone bhakt doesn’t get to the root of the problem. We have been having Farm related problems for many years now. Time to change the laws. Other political parties dont have spine to take on difficult issues.
