Three years after the Maggi noodle ban controversy over lead content, the Supreme Court has created new confusion by reviving the old consumer case, fuelling fresh fear. This flip-flop signals India’s lackadaisical approach to issues of food safety, especially because the controversial ban was lifted and Maggi relaunched in 2015.

It’s time for transparency in courts, and SC’s showing the way

By refusing to allow the Centre to submit a note on steps taken for appointment of Lokpal and insisting on an affidavit, the CJI-headed bench has done the right thing. Hopefully, unsigned notes and sealed envelopes will be done away with, and Constitutionally-guaranteed system of transparent justice delivery is upheld.
