The IIM (Amendment) Bill introduced in Lok Sabha will dilute the autonomy of the premier business schools. It will give power to the Centre through the President to hire and fire IIM directors. It does not augur well as much of IIMs excellence is because of the autonomy it enjoys.

Karnataka governor Thawar Chand Gehlot taking umbrage to an AirAsia flight departing on schedule without waiting for him is typical of VIPism. PM Modi wanted to replace VIP with EPI (every person is important). His message has clearly not hit home. AirAsia should commend, not punish, its staff for professionalism.
