Like Xerxes whipping the ocean for disobeying him, the government’s efforts to block access to a BBC documentary critical of the PM’s role in Gujarat riots is an exercise in futility. The allegations—right or otherwise—have long been publicly debated. Knee-jerk censorship only gives ammunition to the PM’s critics.

Hockey loss to New Zealand reflects India’s inexperience. Fix it with a domestic league

India is not the only team to squander a two-goal lead against an underdog team in the Men’s Hockey World Cup, but the penalty shootout loss to New Zealand reflected inexperience under pressure. High-performance programmes behind closed doors are insufficient. A full-fledged domestic league is the need of the hour.
