Vijay is dumping Parandur airport to spite the DMK. It will damage not only Tamil Nadu economy but also the eastern seaboard. West coast is booming because of modern, private airports and ports. The east is sliding. Both Kolkata and Chennai need modern, larger airports. Growing regional imbalance hurts India.

50% of BJP national office-bearers are upper-caste. It’s an injustice to party’s expanded social base

Over 50 per cent of BJP’s national office-bearers and CMs being upper-caste, as ThePrint analysis shows, does injustice to its expanded social base. Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:

  1. That was also my impression while reading the long column earlier today. A lot of screening and preparatory work has already been done. Financial compensation for land acquisition is now very generous. Supplemented in some cases ( Navi Mumbai airport ) with allotment of residential plots, jobs for family members. This is the world class airport with capacity that would see Chennai almost to the end of this century.
