Zomato’s advertisement using a Bollywood movie character called ‘kachra’ for recycling message was offensive, tone-deaf. His portrayal in Lagaan was itself problematic. The company’s defence is that it was ‘humorous’ makes it worse. Nothing about caste supremacy is funny. It just reinforces the lack of caste diversity in private companies.

Canada’s condemnation of a tableau celebrating the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi means little as long as its government doesn’t act against violent Sikh extremism.
