What’s going on in Kathmandu is anarchy, not a revolution
What’s going on in Kathmandu is largely anarchy. Beware of those romanticising it as a revolution. This is not a democratic protest. This is why politicians like Donald Trump win on the platform of law-and-order. Civilised states do not grant its citizens freedom to go slash and burn public buildings.
Rajasthan anti-conversion law is draconian. Legitimizes ‘bulldozer justice’
Rajasthan’s new draconian anti-conversion law mentions bulldozer action by permitting the demolition of unauthorised buildings where unlawful mass conversions happen. It has the potential to be abused since it gives sweeping power to the state. This is an oblique way to legitimise “bulldozer justice” frowned upon by the Supreme Court.
AAP MLA Mehraj Malik’s detention is crude. It dilutes weight of law
Detaining AAP’s Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act is excessive. In Kashmir, even elected representatives raising people’s issues aren’t immune to the misuse of laws. His choice of words for the administration may be distasteful, but invoking the PSA is a crude, knee-jerk response that dilutes the law’s weight.
How does a government fall in 36 hours over 19 deaths in police firing ( the latter part not meant to sound callous ).
The Rajasthan government must be commended for bringing this law. Such harsh and strict measures are the only way to create fear in the hearts of radicalized youth out to convert others under the garb of marriage.
Earnestly hope that the law enforcement machinery will implement the law effectively on ground and ensure that no man/woman is converted to another religion for the sake of marriage.
