Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been granted parole again, a sign that something may be broken in the system. This undermines the basic objectives of the justice system. It is almost as if parole to the rape convict has become like the model code of conduct, kicking in before every election.
7.3% growth in manufacturing not enough. It should be a larger part of India’s growth story
The Annual Survey of Industries pegs India’s manufacturing growth at 7.3% in current prices in 2022-23. Overall economy grew at nearly double this rate. Manufacturing should be a larger part of India’s growth story, with employment as its centrepiece. The sooner government accepts this, the faster it can remedy it.
