Mungeli, Jun 7 (PTI) A woman and two cousins who were minors drowned while bathing in a river in Chhattisgarh’s Mungeli district on Wednesday, police said.

As per preliminary information, one Akshay Kashyap and his cousin sister Aradhya Kashyap, both aged eight years, were bathing in the Maniyari river near Rabeli village when they slipped into deep waters, an official said.

On seeing them drowning, a female resident of the village, Shankuntala Kahyap (38), who was also bathing nearby, tried to save them, but all three met watery grave, he said.

Aradhya Kashyap’s younger brother, who was also at the spot, rushed to the village and alerted family members about the incident. Local residents took all three to a nearby community health centre (CHC) where doctors declared them dead, he said.

An accidental death report was registered in this connection, the official said. PTI COR TKP RSY RSY
