Eid ul Fitr Mubarak. May the blessings of Eid fill everyone’s life with joy, peace and prosperity.

With the election season in full swing, everyone is trying to prove his point and convince that his thought process, his party is the best. In this melee, no body is talking about the country. What is good for the country, what is required for the country, what decision will have a positive effect on the generations to come. Country has been put on a back bench. Hardly any voice is heard on Whatsapp groups or casual meetings -discussing about the welfare of the country. We are repeating the same mistake as has been done in earlier elections. We have to decide and vote with our brains and not with our minds or hearts.

One issue that is a fact and that does not require discussion is corruption. Past regimes were corrupt, present dispensation is corrupt, future government is going to be corrupt. This is so because we as individuals are corrupt people. We do not mind taking short cuts to earn an extra buck or pleasing politicians for out of turn favours. We call every politician corrupt without looking at our inner self. Unless we mend ourselves, corruption will stay.

At this juncture what is more important is to identify and support individuals/political parties who will uphold the democratic culture of the country. People who will not destroy the institutions of the government that are pillars of democracy. People, who for their petty interests weaken the foundations of this great country should be shunted out.Focus on individuals irrespective of the party. Individuals who are visionary, individuals who will use power judiciously. Any idiot can misuse power, Good use of power comes by deep thinking, long training and a willingness to improve the lot. Very few people can stay balanced when power is bestowed upon them.

Tomorrow, if there is a hung verdict, atleast good individuals will form a coalition for government formation.

Let us be the change that is urgently required now. Let us not be the people whom the future generation blames for all the ills in the society. Let us be the people whom future generation acknowledges as heralders of good governance in the country. Let us be the strength of democratic pillars of our great country. Let us not get carried away by our ego, our blind faith in individuals or political parties. We all can see and judge what is happening in our country. If we still remain unshaken, unconvinced, unmoved or unwilling to acknowledge that a positive change is required, we will be party to the future tyranny. A republic that does not speak, does not act is doomed. Past example is Germany during Adolf Hitler’s time. More recent example is Sri lanka.

Let us pull our socks and get down to the task of nation building. It is our turn now. More importantly vote. Our vote is the most lethal weapon to bring the glory back to our dear country.

  1. Totally agree, it is very important to vote for upholding democratic values and to keep democracy alive for future generations. However I do not agree when you say vote for a good person irrespective of the party. In current situation, I don’t think the environment is conducive for one person to express opinion and dissent with leadership’s decisions, he/she will probably be expelled from the party and will be branded as anti national! It is very important to look at the party ideology and vote for a party that is not divisive and that will be better for the future of democracy.
