SubscriberWrites: Manipur Violence: What is the root cause?

The Manipur violence which was unfortunate and should be highly condemned started with a fake video of the corpse of a Meitei woman who was allegedly murdered by Kuki men.

Thank you dear subscribers, we are overwhelmed with your response.

after hearing various news stories, it was great to get a background of Nuh in Haryana through Shekhar’s presentation that gave details the Muslim community of this district of Haryana. One had suspected that the happenings were the work of certain interested trouble makers and it would be good to hear what the Print would bring to us as follow up
presentations as promised by Shekhar. I expect that we would be able to piece together various happenings leading to the unfortunate events we have been told about so far.
In the case of the tragic events in Manipur, we seem to relate to a story from TV or any other medium based on reports presented on what happened. All of us refer to the video of the three ladies paraded naked in Manipur (not seen by me, however) and react presently without any other information / Data. However, from the Print’s coverage through its young
reporters, it appears that it all started with a fake video of a woman’s corpse, circulated to insinuate Kukis for rape and murder of a Meiti person that led to a large group of the majority community attacking Kuki areas, armed with lethal weapons stolen (or ‘borrowed’, as surmised from the fact that Adhaar cards were left behind as ‘visiting cards’) from the
armory of Manipur Police. If indeed this is true, I would deduce that this fake video would constitute the ‘Root Cause’ of all subsequent tragic events. Instead of researching on who shot the viral video, it would be important to find out who was behind fake video and his motivations.
Was the present chief minister of Manipur following what worked so effectively in Gujarat to mobilize the majority community there to go on a rampage? The way Gujarat police who stood by when lives and properties of the minority community were brutalized at that time bears unfortunate similarities to what we seem to gather from reports on what happened in
Manipur. All my high heeled connection of Gujarati friends justified what ensued in 2002 as ‘action / reaction’- putting the starting point as what the Muslims are accused of doing at Godhra. In spite of hearing various sides on what happened finally, I still wonder whether the ‘Root Cause’ was a carefully engineered ethnic cleansing ‘progrom’ or if the tragedy was indeed the outcome of a spontaneous uprising!
If our governments and civil society do not know the actual truth of what started it all, whatever we may do would be like putting an adhesive plaster over a deep gash…
