New Delhi: Days after an explosion at the Ukrainian embassy in Spain’s capital Madrid, its diplomatic missions in several other European countries claimed to have received ‘bloody packages‘ containing contents such as animal eyes.
“The embassies in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia, Italy, the general consulates in Naples and Krakow, and the consulate in Brno received bloody packages. The packages contained animal eyes. The packages themselves were soaked in a liquid of a characteristic colour and had a corresponding smell,” Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed Friday.
Moreover, Ukrainian embassies in the Vatican and Kazakhstan were reportedly vandalised and warned of a mine attack, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Oleg Nikolenko revealed on his Facebook page.
“We have reasons to consider what’s going on a well-planned campaign of terror and intimidation of embassies and consulʹstv of Ukraine. Not being able to stop Ukraine on the diplomatic front, they try to intimidate us. However, I can immediately say that these attempts are futile. We will continue to effectively work for Ukraine’s victory,” Nikolenko quoted Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba as saying.
In light of the Madrid bomb attack and the delivery of animal eyes in packages, Kuleba ordered for all Ukrainian embassies and consulates to be placed under “heightened security measures”.
“Ukrainian diplomats will continue to successfully work on strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and providing Ukrainians with the necessary energy equipment to survive the winter. The Ukrainian side cooperates with the law enforcement officers of foreign countries to investigate all cases of threats, identify the persons involved and bring them to justice,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ statement added.
Meanwhile, the Russia-Ukraine war rages on, with President Vladimir Putin claiming that any peace talks would be hampered by Western countries’ “refusal to recognise ‘new territories’”, according to a report by the BBC.
