New Delhi: The UK and Welsh Government have announced £1 billion of investment into Shotton Mill in North Wales, which will create 147 jobs and a further 220 when fully commissioned. The mill will become the UK’s largest paper-manufacturing campus., a government release stated.

Eren Holding, the paper manufacturer based in Turkey, has invested in a new plant at the Mill that will recycle waste paper, which would otherwise be transported many hundreds or thousands of miles overseas to be processed. The plant will produce nearly 100% recycled paper and will have an environmentally friendly production model, the release added. This will reduce carbon emissions equivalent to emissions from 190,000 homes a year.

Hamdullah Eren, Senior board member of the Eren Holding Group, stated that the new plant at Shotton Mill will use state-of-the-art technology, making it the most advanced paper campus in Europe. The custom-built plant will deliver sophisticated and sustainable manufacturing solutions well into the 21st century. This is the first major Eren Holding cap ex project outside Türkiye, and the company is delighted to have chosen Deeside as an ideal location to meet its ambitions for growth. Eren also believes that the new plant will bring prosperity, leadership in the industry, and long-term employment prospects that will be the pride of Deeside, Wales, and Türkiye.

Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said, “This is a massive vote of confidence in the Welsh economy and this government’s plans to make Britain the destination of choice for investments in the industries of tomorrow. This transformative investment will not only support local skilled jobs but raise living standards in the community.”
