UK Indo-Pacific Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan is set to visit Bangladesh Tuesday, a UK government press statement said. Her two-day visit is expected to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
The focus will be on key areas of priority between the UK and Bangladesh such as migration, economic reforms, and security. Trevelyan will meet Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud to discuss bilateral cooperation, with a focus on the UK’s support for Bangladesh’s Rohingya refugee response.
During her visit to Dhaka, Trevelyan is scheduled to meet with business leaders, humanitarian actors, climate experts, and political leaders. The minister will also announce the UK’s support for climate action by vulnerable groups in Bangladesh.
The UK has pledged £12 million in humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees and neighboring host communities in Bangladesh. The funding will support basic services such as clean water, healthcare, shelter, and protection.
Trevelyan’s Bangladesh visit is her second visit to the South Asian country as Indo-Pacific Minister. The two-day visit is expected to strengthen the UK’s partnership with Bangladesh in areas of shared interest and promote economic growth and development.
