New Delhi: Some of the most isolated communities in Wales will soon be able to access some of the fastest broadband speeds on the market, according to a UK press release announcing a new UK Government contract.
The UK Government’s rollout of gigabit connectivity will improve internet speeds for 37,000 homes and businesses in Wales. The rollout is part of the UK Government’s plan to level up the country by improving access to digital services.
Project Gigabit is integral to the Government’s Plan for Change, aiming to spur economic growth and remove barriers to opportunity. It will mean people in rural areas will be able to access services such as healthcare at home through virtual consultations and remote monitoring, as well as high-quality video calls, the release added.
Telecoms Minister, Sir Chris Bryant, said, “For families and businesses across rural Wales, fighting for bandwidth with neighbours will soon be a thing of the past, thanks to this UK Government programme bringing lightning-fast internet to rural areas.”
