Lahore, May 15 (PTI) A ceremony to mark the 118th birth anniversary of Indian anti-colonial revolutionary fighter Sukhdev Thapar, one of the iconic trio of Sukhdev-Bhagat Singh-Rajguru, was held in Pakistan’s Lahore on Friday.

The event was organised by the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, Pakistan at the Democratic Lawn of Lahore High Court Bar to recall the sacrifices by Thapar, known popularly only as Sukhdev.

Born in 1907, Sukhdev was executed along with Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru on March 23, 1931 in Lahore after being tried under charges of hatching a conspiracy against the British regime.

On Friday, the foundation head Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi said great revolutionaries such as Sukhdev, Bhagat Singh and Rajguru sacrificed their lives “to awaken” the people of the subcontinent against slavery, oppression, and injustice.

These legendary figures taught the oppressed nations the true meaning of resistance, freedom, equality, and justice, he said.

Qureshi further said that Sukhdev was not merely an individual but a symbol of resistance, revolutionary thought, and unwavering courage against tyranny. “Today’s youth must learn from the ideology and sacrifices of these revolutionaries.” Advocates Ghulamullah Joiya, Waqar Hussain Shah and Jangi Waheed Qureshi emphasised that the revolutionary heroes of the subcontinent rose above religion, caste, language, and ethnicity to fight for humanity and rights of oppressed people.
