New Delhi: The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture (MORAC) of Myanmar, in partnership with the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to ASEAN, recently concluded a three-day training program on ASEAN project development. Held between 10 and 12 December in Nay Pyi Taw, the training aimed to equip Myanmar government officials with the skills needed to effectively develop and manage regional cooperation projects within the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Pillar framework, an ASEAN press release stated.

This training, the second of its kind for Myanmar, was part of the 4th ASEAN Development Fund (ADF) Work Plan.  It saw the participation of 43 Myanmar ASEAN focal points from 10 line ministries and agencies under the ASCC Pillar.

The program focused on providing practical insights into developing regional project proposals and managing ASEAN cooperation projects using a results-based management approach.  According to the release, Technical experts from ASEC led sessions featuring presentations, exercises, group work, and panel discussions.

By the end of the training, participants had developed five draft regional project proposals covering areas such as disaster risk management, job creation for rural women, illegal migration, work-life balance in the public sector, and disaster prevention and climate resilience in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Vietnam, the release added. Participants refined project proposals for ASEC funding opportunities under ASEAN and ASEAN-External Partners development cooperation.

Daw Nu Mra Zan, Deputy Minister of MORAC Myanmar, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and project management skills in achieving the goals of ASEAN Vision 2045.  She highlighted the training’s value for Myanmar’s contributions to ASEAN Community building and the importance of results-based project management for accountability and sustainability of regional cooperation projects that would yield meaningful results for a resilient, innovative, and people-centered ASEAN.
