New Delhi: In a light-hearted moment Sunday, US Vice President J.D. Vance revealed his favourite Indian and Pakistani—his wife Usha and Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir—on the sidelines of the first round of US-Iran talks in a luxury resort in Switzerland.

“I have joked that I have two very, very important people in my life, an Indian and a Pakistani. The Indian is my wife, and the Pakistani is Field Marshal Munir,” he said, drawing laughter from those present.

At the high-level negotiation meeting, he also thanked Pakistan and its leaders for their role in mediating the US-Iran talks.

Vance proceeded to appreciate Munir, who was present there, saying he had spent a lot of time speaking with him over the past few months and lauded his diplomatic efforts. Vance said the two had been in contact regularly and discussed a wide range of topics related to security and diplomacy.

Vance’s comments quickly garnered social media attention, with clips of his words being widely shared. While the reference to his wife was meant to be light-hearted, it sparked quite a reaction among viewers.

The bilateral meeting involved the US delegation and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s team at a luxury resort in Switzerland, where mediators, including representatives from Pakistan and Qatar, are facilitating discussions between Washington and Tehran.
