Peshawar, Aug 22 (PTI) A Hindu trader has been killed by unidentified armed men in Noshki town of Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province, according to a media report on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Friday. Some unidentified armed men barged into the trader’s shop in Qadirabad Stop area of Noshki Bazaar. When he offered resistance, they opened fire and fled, leaving the trader dead on the spot, the Dawn newspaper reported.

The deceased was identified as Rakesh Kumar.

Meanwhile, Member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly Gurpal Singh condemned the killing, terming it a cowardly act by anti-state and anti-Balochistan elements.

In a statement on Saturday, he said, “The Hindu community has been an integral part of Balochistan for centuries and has repeatedly demonstrated its loyalty to Pakistan and Balochistan.” He added that hostile elements would never succeed in creating hatred and fear among the people by targeting innocent Hindu traders and civilians.

The member of provincial assembly called on the Balochistan government and law-enforcement agencies to immediately identify and bring to justice the killers of Kumar, their facilitators and those behind the attack. PTI AYZ GSP GSP

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
