Islamabad, Oct 5 (PTI) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit Pakistan from October 6 to 8, during which he will meet the country’s top leadership and discuss regional and international developments, authorities here said on Monday.

Guterres is undertaking the official visit at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

During his visit, Guterres will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Dar and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.

The UN chief will also visit the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) and attend a briefing at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Pakistan.

Guterres will have several other engagements during the visit, at which Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen multilateralism and promote international peace and security, as well as its progress in disaster preparedness and early warning systems, will be highlighted, the FO said.

The visit will “offer an important opportunity to reiterate Pakistan’s long standing cooperation with the United Nations, and to exchange views on regional and international developments”, it said. PTI SH SCY SCY

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
