New Delhi: Former US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania received the Covid-19 vaccine in the White House in January, an adviser to the former President revealed Monday. The adviser did not provide further details on which vaccine was administered or when the second dose was provided, reported The New York Times and other media outlets such as CNN.

This comes a day after Trump, in his first speech since leaving the White House, said everyone should get vaccinated against Covid-19. “Everyone should go get your shot,” he said at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Sunday and urged people not to let the Biden administration take credit for the ongoing vaccination drive.

“Joe Biden is only implementing the plan that we put in place,” he added.

More than 50 million Americans have received their first vaccine shot, which is about 15.3 per cent of the total population.

Trump’s reported decision to take the vaccine in secret has been contrasted with President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and former Vice President Mike Pence taking their shots in televised coverage.

A recent survey by Civiqs polling found that 41 per cent of Republicans don’t plan to get a vaccine if it’s available to them while only 33 per cent plan to get vaccinated. The poll also showed vaccine hesitancy among 56 percent of white Republicans.

During the 2020 election trail, former President Barack Obama had accused Trump of turning the White House into a “hot zone”.

On 26 September, the Trump administration held a nomination ceremony for Supreme Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett at the White House Rose Garden which was later termed a ‘super spreader’ event after 11 people were infected. Few attendees wore masks, reported the BBC. A week later, Trump and Melania were infected with the virus, and the former president was hospitalised with a severe case for a few days.

    • If Donnie repeatedly called Coronavirus-19 a “hoax” – why would he get any vaccine?
Did he LIE to the American people when he called it a “hoax”?
      True leaders lead. Donnie LIES!
HELL YES Donnie lied! It’s what he does … it’s ALL he does!
And of course this IS “real journalism”. But as an obvious Kool-Aid swilling Trumpkin acolyte, anything that doesn’t praise your Fuhrer must be denigrated.
