Biden congratulates Senegal on election of new president

US President Joe Biden has congratulated the people of Senegal on the election of Bassirou Diomaye Faye as the next president of the country.

In a statement released on Wednesday 27 March 2024, the White House said the election of Diomaye Faye is a victory for democracy and a clear sign that the people of Senegal have elected their choice.

The statement added that the United States looks forward to strengthening its ties with Senegal in the years ahead as the two countries continue to work together to address key global challenges such as terrorism, food insecurity, climate change, and fight corruption.
