A new initiative led by the Biden administration aims to modernise the US power grid by upgrading existing infrastructure and developing new technologies, a White House press statement said Tuesday.
The ‘federal-state modern grid deployment’ initiative will initially comprise 21 states committed to improving the resilience and capacity of their electric systems and advancing the adoption of clean and sustainable forms of energy.
The initiative will facilitate the deployment of advanced grid-enhancing technologies such as high-performance conductors to support the increased capacity of the U.S. power grid. It will also promote the collaboration of utilities, grid operators, regulators, state energy offices, industry and research institutions to develop and implement grid resilience plans.
The energy department will provide technical assistance to the participating states to help them implement their plans and coordinate with other stakeholders to achieve the modernisation of their electric grids.
The initiative is part of the Biden administration’s broader plan to invest in clean energy technologies and help the country achieve its climate goals.
