ASEAN officials meet to tackle transnational crime

Senior officials meeting on transnational crime convenes in Vientiane, Laos.

New Delhi: The 24th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) 2024 took place from June 26-28 in Vientiane, Laos, and featured talks and discussions on transnational crime in the region.

The summit was attended by officials from all ASEAN member states, dialogue partners, and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community. The talks and discussions focused on identifying and addressing the challenges posed by transnational crime and enhancing cooperation in the areas of investigation, detection, and prosecution.

The participants also exchanged views on the potential role of regional and international cooperation in addressing the issue of transnational crime. The SOMTC 2024 meeting provided an opportunity for ASEAN member states to refocus their commitment to addressing the transnational crime challenge and enhancing cooperation in the areas of investigation, detection, and prosecution.

The meeting also served as a platform for promoting cooperation with partners and enhancing the capacity of the ASEAN member states to respond to the evolving threat landscape.
