New Delhi: The Chinese media once again mocked the US over the withdrawal of its troops from Afghanistan.
In a recent video clip from a satire show called Deer Show on GlobaLink, a website run by Xinhua news agency, an anchor can be seen mocking the US’ evacuation efforts. “During the evacuation, over 600 Afghans crammed into a US cargo plane, yet US military dogs sat on reserved seats of a passenger plane,” the anchor said.

However, the potshots did not just stop there. The anchor went on to mock the US administration over the Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s remark that the US mission in Afghanistan was ”not Saigon”.
The anchor said: “Secretary, if not Saigon, is it Baghdad, Damascus, Havana?” alluding to the many wars the US has fought in various countries.
She then went on to say that the US has fought so many wars around the world for all sorts of reasons.
At the end of the video clip, the anchor said two lessons can be learnt from the situation in Afghanistan: “One, facing disasters, do not count on a superpower which brings a super disaster. Second, seeking for nation building, now you know whose door you shall never knock.”
Not the first time
This is not the first instance where the Chinese state media has lashed out at the US over the crisis in Afghanistan.
On 15 August, Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of state-run newspaper Global Times, tweeted: “Chinese netizens joked that the power transition in Afghanistan is even more smooth than presidential transition in the US.”

“If you ever feel useless … Just remember that the United States took four presidents, thousands of lives, trillions of dollars and 20 years … To replace Taliban with Taliban,” was another joke trending on Chinese social media over the withdrawal of the US troops from Afghanistan.
