New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued an advisory to the public to beware of calls impersonating government officials.According to the advisory, DoT will not authorise anyone to make such a call.

The advisory was issued on Thursday after the DoT received a complaint from a mobile number. According to the DoT, someone has called people on behalf of DoT and threatened them that their mobile numbers will be disconnected.

The DoT has also given a list of precautions against mobile number misuse. People should not share their mobile number with anyone, DoT officials said. They also advised people to check their mobile connections with the DoT’s Know Your Mobile Connections facility. According to this, people should not share any mobile connection that they do not have or that they do not require. If you receive a call like this, you can report it to the DoT’s cyber-crime helpline at 1930 or online at cybercrime.gov.in.

The DoT has also advised people to report any mobile connection not taken by them or not required to the Know Your Mobile Connections facility.
