West Bengal is an Indian state in the eastern part of the country, and the only one in India with an incumbent woman Chief Minister — Mamata Banerjee.
The region, which was the political heart of the Bengal Presidency during British Rule, was divided into East and West Bengal in 1947. Bengal was a hotbed of the Indian Independence movement and has remained one of the country’s great artistic and intellectual centres, being home to Nobel laureates Rabindranath Tagore, Mother Teresa, Amartya Sen and Abhijit Banerjee as well as freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose and Oscar winner Satyajit Ray.
Geographically, the state is happily situated with the Himalayas in the north and the Sundarbans in the south. It shares a roughly 2,200-sqkm border with Bangladesh (East Bengal at the time of Partition).
For the first 30 years, the Congress ruled Bengal, but made way for Left domination for the next 34 years. In 2011, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress — a breakaway from the Congress — came to power.
Bengal was zero in India’s history books before the British came to the land. Bengal has swiftly reverted to zero after the British left in 1947 and around the new millennium in less than 50 years. When did the decline start? When the ruffians & hooligans mostly in British Bengal turned against the British around 1900s when the British had no option but to come up with the decision to partition Bengal in 1905 facing the belligerent terrorism of the natives against British Raj, who were the proverbial Goddess Lakshmi divinely sent in the late 1600s.
Bengal is a failed state. Enjoy the decline.
Communist Bengal is beyond repair. Hope the emigrant Bengalis don’t spread communism.
Instead of blaming the past incidents, take a look at what is happening today. People from Hindi Heartland had arrived in the City when Bengalis were leaving because of Cowardiceness. You can compare it with a sinking ship in the high North sea trapped in a hurricane and the rats start jumping into the sea and later the ship didn’t drown as the sea calm down, so is the case with the so-called bright students. I don’t agree with your stance that Kolkata or West Bengal declined despite facing turbulence for some decades but still Kolkata is the third largest city economy of India ahead of Bengaluru and West Bengal, the sixth largest state GDP. The outsiders especially people from Bihar and Jharkhand are still arriving for improving their quality of lives and Marwadis are still carrying on their Businesses despite the Birlas moving to Mumbai still they have offices of Birlas, Goenkas, Ruias and Kejriwals in Kolkata. The problem with the so-called smarter kids ar probashis are that they don’t want to struggle in West Bengal but just they move to other states and continents and give their 100% over there and blame the State and Politicians. Coming to the Statement of Mr. Sanyal as he is the advisor to the PM’s Office, I would like to mention that its just a political stunt to defame the current state of West Bengal. How come the Marwadis and Biharis get the oppotunity to do Business and get jobs in West Bengal because the Bengalis are not trying to get jobs amd work in the State but to move elsewhere and what the so-called probashis have they done for their Motherland after getting settled and becoming famous abroad?
